Description

Yuet Sun grew up in a very primitive family with unknown future and dreams. So this work’s objective is to concern and reflect on a helpless woman in the old primitive society. The starting point of this work comes from the woman’s
perspective in Chinese culture. Women, coming from Chinese traditional culture used to be oppressed and ignored because of social status in the past. I’m hoping to bring out the highlights of women as a reflection to the society in
the 21st Century.

Inside this piece, there is a woman, dressed in male suit and shoes, exists vigorously in rebelling the society, hoping to have the opportunity and responsibility in choosing the things they desired or love. As a woman, we can’t depend on our family’s option or choices, but to ourselves in our own nature. For Cheng Dieyi, he didn’t recognise his own sex and was fascinated by the love towards Yuan Shiqing. Through their struggles, both Yuan Shiqing and Cheng Dieyi had feelings for each other but was under the pressure of the society which forced them to hide their love. When the man got married to another woman, she was forced to keep her affection in her heart until her
gravestone. So, the role of a woman wearing in suit is actually a shout out for the love of the same gender. A famous writer once said, "Love is gender-neutral, I'm lookin' for love, but I wouldn't give up this love of sex." Thus, for
me, this role is a reflection of the a woman’s status in the ancient times that could not afford to compete with this dreadful society. This phenomenon was brought out through a body language in contributing women as a wanted
species and also my development in bringing out the advantages and disadvantages of women in the old China culture.
